Where to fly on the first trip by plane with a child?
Quite often you ask us where to fly for your first family vacation or first short flight. However, the answer is not so obvious and really depends on many factors. As expectant or newly minted parents, I'm sure you often ask yourself where you will fly on your first trip by plane with a baby? What direction would be best? Is it better to fly somewhere far away, or to take a shorter route to begin with? Or even… Is it at all possible?
It is very possible that you have often heard texts like "Well, now the traveling will definitely stop" or "when the baby comes it will not be so colorful with travel anymore", or even God forbid, a text like "I hope you will let travel go for a few years"…
In this post we hope to dispel your doubts and inspire you to travel together. We will show that as much as possible it is possible and it is not so scary at all 🙂 Of course, it's not for everyone, but we base here on our experiences, our friends, as well as on inspiration taken from our social media followers.
Here we will focus only on the directions, show that the world is still open to you. If you are looking for other practical information about the first flight with a baby then we recommend you our post: "" First airplane flight with a baby.
Where to fly on your first trip by plane with a baby?
Assuming that you are ready and willing to travel to show your children the beauty of our world, you need to answer a few questions:
- What age is the child and do you need children's attractions on site?
- What do you like to do on vacation? Whether you want to relax, sightsee, or maybe you want to spend time actively?
- Do you want warmth, pleasant to swim in, or perhaps no conditions frighten you?
- How have you traveled so far? With a travel agency or on your own?
… and so on, the interview could be quite long to be able to actually give specific advice, however, the answers to the above questions will surely already give you a bit of guidance on an interesting direction.
However, if you are interested in our experience and where we flew in the 1st year of our kids' lives (we had a total of three "first years of life", one of which is not yet finished and anything can happen ;-)), then below you will find a list of our trips (random order):
- , x 2 (Beijing, Chengdu, Shanghai, Yangtze River cruise),
- Turkey x 2 – yes yes, all inclusive!, That's no bad thing ;-), x 2 (Florida and west coast),
- United Kingdom (London),
- Germany (Munich and from there to Italy by car), , (Marrakesh), (Lviv).
As you can see, not all of them are (yet) described on our blog 🙂
Of course, we travel a lot more with kids, but these are just the destinations we've been to until they were 1 year old. If we were to include even 1.5 years of life, the list would be even longer and more interesting 😉
So, if you have any questions for us on our facebook or instagram we are always happy to suggest something, but at least write us what your experiences, preferences, what you want to do on the spot, and then it will be easier for us to advise something 🙏 🙃
Choosing a destination for the first trip, inspiration from other people
In addition to looking for information on the Internet, you can also ask your friends. Surely you have such closer or further acquaintances who travel further without much trouble. But there are bound to be those for whom a trip to the supermarket is a no-brainer. And it's not a bad thing. We also have such friends who liked to travel, but for various reasons gave it up for a while having tiny, or is it bigger children. Sometimes it's like this.
However, there's no need to assume right away that it won't work out, and you should just give it a try. There are absolutely no medical contraindications for even a few months old, healthy child to fly by plane even for long distances. Of course, it's always good to consult just such a decision with your doctor, especially if it's our first child and we're not quite sure about it.
